Statement of Faith

Statement of Faith

The following statement of faith, which the Marion Grace Church embraces, preaches and defends, received its foundation from the Bible, the infallible Word of God, which
this church accepts as final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

The Bible

The sixty-six books, and only these, known as the Old and New Testaments, are the
written Word of God. God’s inspiration and superintendence of the writing of every word of the Bible 2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20-21 guarantees that what was written is His Word and therefore authoritative Romans 16:25-27; 1 Corinthians 2:12-13, true Psalm 19:7-11, 119:89,160 and without error in the original manuscripts. Luke 24:25-27; 1 Peter 1:23-25 God preserves His Word, which is powerful and effective to accomplish His purpose of salvation Romans 1:1, 10:8-17 among all nations.

The One True God

There is one, and only one Deuteronomy 6:4; Isaiah 43:10; 1Corinthians 8:4-6; 1Timothy 2:5, true God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob Matthew 22:32; Acts 3:13. He is the Creator Genesis 1:1; Psalm 146:6 and Lord of all, existing eternally in three persons, never less and never more – God the Father, God the Son John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16-17 and God the Holy Spirit Matthew 28:19; Luke 3:22; 2 Corinthians 13:14.

God The Father

God the Father, existing eternally, first Person of the Trinity, is equal with the Son
and the Holy Spirit, and is the Creator of all things, and orders all things according to
His own purpose and grace. He is the absolute, omnipotent (all powerful),sovereign
Ruler of the universe and all things in it. His fatherhood involves both His designation within the Trinity and His relationship to mankind Psalm 145:8-9, 103:19; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Genesis 1:1-3; Ephesians 3:9; Romans 11:36. As Creator He is Father to all men Ephesians 4:6, but He is spiritual Father to only believers Romans 8:14; 2 Corinthians 6:18. In His sovereignty He is neither the author or approver of sin Habakkuk 1:13; John 8:38-47, nor does He remove the accountability of moral, intelligent creatures 1 Peter 1:17. For God so loved the world that He sacrificed His only begotten Son John 3:16 and now He saves from sin all who come to Him through Jesus Christ; He adopts as His own all those who come to Him; and He becomes, upon adoption, Father to His own John 1:12; Romans 8:15; Galatians 4:5; Hebrews 12:5-9.

God the Son – The Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is fully God, existing eternally John 1:1-3, 8:58; Titus 2:13. Everything was
created by Him Romans 11:36; Colossians 1:16 and for Him. His incarnation took place in the womb of a virgin John 1:14; Matthew 1:18-23; Luke 1:26-35. He became man Luke 2:52, but never sinned Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:22. He died a substitutionary death John 19:28-30; Philippians 2:6-8 to atone for sin Romans 5:8; 2 Corinthians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:24-25, resurrected bodily Luke 24:36-43; Romans 1:4; 1 Corinthians 15:3-8, and ascended into heaven Acts 1:9; Hebrews 4:14 where He remains fully God and fully man, and is presently ministering Ephesians 1:17-23 until He comes again Acts 1:11.

God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is fully God Acts 5:3-4, existing eternally. He is a person, and was
involved in Creation Genesis 1:2 and the inspiration of Scripture 2 Peter 1:21. His works of convicting John 16:8-11 and regenerating Acts 1:8; John 16:7-15 are essential to the believer’s salvation Titus 3:5. Believers are entitled to the benefit Ephesians 3:16 and joy of being filled Romans 8:9 and walking 1 Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 5:18 in the Spirit for empowerment Galatians 5:16,22-23 in Christian life, service, and mission.

God created man and woman in His image Genesis 1:26-28; James 3:9; Genesis 3. As a
result, all people are bearers of His image. However, Adam’s subsequent sin Romans 5:12, 19, 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3 resulted in a condition of spiritual death Romans 8:6-8 which all people Genesis 2:17; Romans 5:12 since Adam have experienced, marring the beauty of God’s image in them in every facet of life. This condition of spiritual death has rendered all people unable to save themselves, and leads to physical death. Therefore, new birth is necessary for salvation John 1:12, 3:3-5.

The salvation brought by God is a complete and eternal salvation by His grace alone
Ephesians 2:4-9; Titus 3:5-7, received as the free gift of God through personal faith Romans 5:1 alone in the Lord Jesus Christ and His finished work 1 Peter 1:18-21, as He declares believers righteous in Him Hebrews 9:12, 10:14.

The Church

There exists one true Church, the body Ephesians 1:22-23; Ephesians 1:21-23, 5:25-32;
1 Corinthians 3:16,12:27
and bride of Christ Ephesians 2:19-20. It is composed of all true disciples 1 Timothy 3:14-15 of the present age 1 Corinthians 12:12-13; and the organization of its members in local churches Hebrews 10:25; Romans 16:4-5 Revelation 2:1, 8 for worship, for edification of disciples Ephesians 4:11-16, and for world-wide gospel witness Matthew 28:18-20. Each local church is autonomous while cooperating in fellowship and work within the Body of Christ.

Christian Life

The believer is saved by faith alone through grace alone Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 4:5. The faith that saves is expected to produce obedience and good works Colossians 3:17; James 2:14-17, which are the products of the indwelling Holy Spirit 2 Corinthians 3:18; Galatians 5:22-23. This faith also produces a life of righteousness Romans 12:1-2,17-21; Philippians 2:12-13, good works, and separation unto God from the evil ways of the world Romans 8:29, manifested by speaking the truth, maintaining the sanctity of the home Ephesians 5:22-6:4, settling differences between Christians 1 Corinthians 6:1-8 in accordance with the Word of God, not engaging in carnal strife, but showing a Christ-like attitude toward all men Matthew 22:36-40, exhibiting the fruit of the Spirit, and maintaining a life of prayer Ephesians 6:18; Philippians 4:6, including the privilege of calling for the Elders to pray James 5:13-16 and to anoint with oil in the name of the Lord.

The Christian should observe the ordinances of our Lord Jesus Christ, which are [1]
the baptism of believers by triune immersion Matthew 28:19 which testifies to the reality of our salvation and identifies us as disciples of the Triune God; and, [2] the threefold Communion service John 13:1-17, consisting of the washing of the saints’ feet, the Lord’s Supper, and the Communion of the bread and the cup 1 Corinthians 11:20-26. Communion in the Son testifies to our justification, sanctification and glorification, which are accomplished through Jesus Christ.

Angels, Satan, Demons

God created a multitude of spiritual beings called ‘angels’ Ephesians 1:21, 3:10, 6:12 .
Righteous angels Daniel 7:10; Hebrews 1:14, 12:22 continue to serve God and work both in the heavenly sphere and on earth. By his disobedience, Satan, a fallen angel, became the adversary of God and God’s people 1 Peter 5:8-9; Revelation 2:10, carrying with him a procession of demons (fallen angels). Jesus Christ has overcome Satan John 12:31; Romans 16:20; 1 John 3:8 so that the final judgments and doom of Satan and his demons are certain Revelation 12:1-10, 20:10.

Second Coming

We affirm that the Church began on a particular day of Pentecost when our ascended
Lord sent His Spirit to the waiting disciples Acts 2. The present Church age will come
to an end when our Lord comes in the air to remove His Church from the earth 1 Thessalonians 1:10, 4:13-18; John 14:3; Revelation 3:10, before the tribulation Zechariah 12, and fulfill His promises to Israel Romans 11:26-29. The second coming of Christ is the personal, physical Zechariah 14:4, and visible return of Christ from heaven to earth with His Church Revelation 19:11-20:6; Colossians 3:4, to establish His thousand-year reign Revelation 20:4; 1 Corinthians 15:24-25 before instituting His eternal kingdom.

Future Life

The dead will have their bodies resurrected and have a conscious existence for all
eternity. Unbelievers, already under condemnation, will be sentenced to suffer eternal separation from God in a literal lake of fire Matthew 25:46; Luke 16:19-31; John
5:28-29; Revelation 20:11-15
. Believers, already having been granted eternal life Philippians 1:21-23; John 3:16, 6:47, will give an account Romans 14:10-12; 1 Corinthians 3:10-15; 2 Corinthians 5:10 for their lives and be rewarded according to their works, and will experience a glorified Revelation 21:3-5,8, eternal existence in the presence of the Lord Psalm 16:11.
